The market also includes established international payment providers serving merchants that require card acquiring, payment processing, cross-border payments and multi-currency capabilities.
Regulation and Compliance
Taiwan’s electronic payment sector is regulated primarily by the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).
The Act Governing Electronic Payment Institutions establishes the regulatory framework for electronic payment institutions and covers activities including collecting and making payments as an agent, stored-value services and certain domestic and foreign small-value remittances. The FSC is the competent authority under the Act.
